Hi, I’m Nicole. I’m an educator, writer, and web developer based in Portland, Oregon.

Nonoya Books is a US-based retailer that sells new and vintage Japanese language media including manga, light novels, and video game collectibles. I designed and developed the storefront, wrote product and marketing copy, and created Google and Meta PPC campaigns to increase brand awareness, driving 1.3K average yearly orders.
I designed the storefront using Adobe XD for prototyping and Adobe Photoshop for editing the final mockup. I implemented that design using the Shopify CMS with a custom minimalist template. The website integrates GraphQL API as well as Paypal and Stripe integrations for custom dashboard analytics and payment processing. I created Javascript plugins for custom sliders and content imports.
Creating product listings, maintaining categories, and updating plugins were part of the site’s daily upkeep. Later additions to the website included a custom contact form, animated menus, and dynamic image loading. Gradual improvements to Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) through image optimization and streamlined CSS and JavaScript helped improve loading speed and accessibility.
I provided all the copy for the Nonoya Books storefront including page descriptions, product listings, blog entries, and social media posts. A large portion of the website’s copy was based on text I translated from Japanese to English. Product descriptions were written using a mix of writing systems to appeal to both serious and casual collectors with varying degrees of Japanese proficiency.
